Trees and Shrubs to avoid in Utah

These are not my favorites because of the winter kill that we get every year, but I still plant them in some Utah soils. Wine rose weigela, blue mist, heavenly dwarf  bamboo, otto lyken laurel, rep tip photinia and most Japanese maples www.maple-trees.com. I have had bad luck with 4″+ clump green maples. Blue mist spirea, if there planted to early they will freeze. Sub alpine firs, clematis, some deadora cedars, vanderwolf pine if it gets too much water, hornbeam, weeping Pusey willow, Canada red choke cherries in clay soils. The horse chest nut and the mimosa are very pretty but very messy. www.cjlutah.com There’s more to come…
